Bruin Voice: Advancing UCLA’s Digital Campus with Modern Communication

Communication is evolving at UCLA, and Bruin Voice is leading the way. In collaboration with campus partners, Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) has implemented Zoom Phone, a cloud-based communication solution designed for flexibility, efficiency, and seamless collaboration.

In 2023, the Bruin Voice team achieved a major milestone by migrating nearly 6,000 phone lines and 30 auto-attendants/phone trees to Zoom’s softphone platform. This initiative also led to a comprehensive telephony data cleanup, identifying 5,000 unnecessary phone lines for disconnection—saving UCLA customers approximately $1M annually.

Why Zoom Phone?

  • Flexibility & Mobility – Use your UCLA phone number remotely or on-the-go, ensuring seamless connectivity.
  • Enhanced Collaboration – Easily transition between calls, video meetings, screen sharing, and chat to support hybrid work and teaching.
  • Future-Ready Technology – Replaces aging legacy systems, reducing dependency on outdated hardware.
  • Sustainable & Efficient – Reduces physical phone hardware, repurposes eligible devices, and modernizes equipment for more reliable performance.

Bruin Voice is a campus-wide transformation made possible by UCLA’s Chief Administrative Officers, IT Strategic Partners, and department leaders. Supported by an expanded data network and a robust change management strategy—including communication, training, and IT support—this initiative is reshaping how Bruins connect, collaborate, and work.

DTS is committed to delivering intuitive, secure, and future-ready solutions that empower the UCLA community. With Bruin Voice, we’re not just upgrading phones—we’re enabling a smarter, more connected campus.
