Overview

The campus IT governance process is an integrated approach to developing and implementing campuswide technological strategy, policy, and solutions that advance the University’s mission of teaching, research, and public service.

The IT governance process relies on a robust collective of established committees with domain expertise to inform IT strategy and policy and bring forth well-formed, thoughtful proposals for review and approval.

Academic Technology Committee

The Academic Technology Committee focuses on activities related to (a) teaching and learning technologies, products and (b) services and integrated digital experiences for the student and instructor experience.

In alignment with the university’s mission and the campus IT strategy, as established by the Executive IT Governance Board, the ATC:

  • Facilitates campuswide coordination for academic technology recommendations that enable equitable and accessible educational practices
  • Provides oversight of teaching and learning technologies and processes related to student and instructor experience
  • Provides oversight of systems that personalize the student experience and engage learners

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee steers UCLA’s campus-wide strategy for responsible, ethical, and innovative AI use, serving as a central hub and adapting to emerging technologies, opportunities, and risks. The AI Committee references and builds on the work of the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) AI Working Group recommendations.

Cyber-Risk & Data Privacy Governance Committee

The Cyber Risk and Data Privacy Governance Committee (CRDPGC) provides oversight of cyber-risk management, data privacy and protection, and cyber-risk incident response related to UCLA’s data information systems.  The committee’s scope includes the protection, storage, use, and management of electronic data assets used for academic, research, or administrative purposes, whether stored or transmitted in electronic form and may consist of data, systems, networks, or documents created from electronic data. The Cyber Risk and Data Privacy Governance Committee:

  • Reviews and recommends changes to cybersecurity and data privacy policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Reviews and endorses cyber-risk mitigation and response plans
  • Reviews and endorses information security standards consistent with acceptable risk tolerances

Data Governance Committee

The Data Governance Committee focuses on data, analytics, and activities related to campuswide projects and initiatives involving the use of institutional data. [Research data is not included in the scope of the Data Governance Committee.] In alignment with the University’s mission and campus IT strategy, as established by the Executive IT Governance Board, the Data Governance Committee employs:

  • Conceptual data governance to enable the emergence and ongoing cultivation of a single, shared definition of our data across the institution.
  • Logical data governance to mature processes that create data across the institution so that they generate accurate, timely, and meaningful data.
  • Physical data governance to continue development of the non-functional processes that capture, store, classify, and enable the retrieval and use of institutional data in a consistent and secure manner.

Digital Accessibility Steering Committee

The Digital Accessibility Steering Committee provides strategic direction, aligns efforts across campus, oversees institutional risk mitigation, and advises UCLA leadership on resource allocation and prioritization in support of digital accessibility.

In alignment with the university’s mission and the campus DTS strategy, the Digital Accessibility Steering Committee:

  • Creates and reviews an inventory of UCLA resources for promoting digital accessibility. This may include training, technology, and tools
  • Assesses, clarifies, and prioritizes campus community needs with respect to digital accessibility literacy and support for digital accessibility compliance
  • Identifies areas of overlap and gaps in resources to advance digital accessibility
  • Identifies any structural challenges that limit the cost-effectiveness and/or timeliness in meeting digital accessibility needs
  • Inventories, evaluates, classifies, and ranks web assets to determine risk profile, ownership and accountability
  • Oversees a project management structure and helps monitor UCLA’s progress toward digital accessibility goals, including identifying and working with action teams
