Overview
Kaltura is a video hosting and streaming service integrated with Bruin Learn. It can be accessed through the “My Media” link in the Account sub-menu, and the “Media Gallery” link in the course navigation menu. It is available for faculty and students to use in their courses, without restrictions to file size or storage limits. Kaltura is the recommended tool for storing and sharing media, offering automatically generated captions, and enhancing accessibility for all users.
Primary Benefits
Kaltura video, audio, and images can be embedded anywhere within a Bruin Learn course where the Rich Content Editor (RCE) is available. This includes Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, Announcements, and Discussions.
Zoom cloud recordings are automatically copied to Kaltura and are available indefinitely, ( cloud recordings stored in Zoom will auto-delete after 120 days). These recordings are stored privately and can be found with the rest of your media under the Account menu in Bruin Learn within “My Media.”
Kaltura media can be published and made available in the “Media Gallery” section of a course. This includes videos, video playlists, and video quizzes. You can also use the browser-based Quick Recorder or the desktop Kaltura Capture app to create and edit new media.
Pricing
Kaltura is paid for by the University. It is available to instructors and students at no cost.

What videos will automatically include the new V7 Player?
Videos in your My Media or course Media Gallery will use the new V7 Player by default. Any new videos you create and embed in your Bruin Learn course will use the new V7 Player.
Recommended actions to ensure future compatibility
To support a smooth transition, existing Kaltura embed codes that used the V2 Player will automatically redirect to the V7 Player. While this redirect ensures continued playback for now, it may not be supported long term.
To reduce the risk of future compatibility issues and take advantage of enhanced features in the V7 Player, instructors and content creators are strongly encouraged to update existing embeds as they prepare or revise Bruin Learn courses and web content. This proactive step will help ensure ongoing support and a better media experience for users.
- Re-embed your manually embedded Kaltura media in Bruin Learn:
Kaltura media and playlists that were manually embedded in Bruin Learn using the HTML view in the Rich Context Editor in Bruin Learn or embedded as media from an external source in the Rich Content Editor in Bruin Learn should be re-embedded to use the new V7 player.
