ATTENTION: The temporary quota extension for Google Drive Storage – which was previously communicated as expiring in June 2025 – has been extended for the following groups:

  • All Shared Drives currently registered for research extension funding
  • Personal Drives belonging to non-student Academic Appointees

A new compliance deadline will be communicated and published here in the coming weeks. Please check back for updates and further guidance on how you may be affected.

Refer to the How Am I Affected page and review your affiliation's section for details. If you have questions or concerns regarding your account, contact help@it.ucla.edu.

Google Workspace Storage Increase Requests

To support UCLA’s research and academic mission, select groups are entitled to additional storage space within Google Workspace beyond their Permanent Baseline Quota. If you are among these eligible groups, have reached your Permanent Baseline Storage Quota limit, and need additional storage space, please submit a storage increase request using the applicable form below:

Note: Eligible groups may request incremental storage increases until the maximum storage allotment has been reached. Users who do not currently belong to the university affiliation groups outlined above are not eligible for storage increase requests at this time.

Shared Drives (Registration Required)

Shared Drives that are directly connected to university research and include research data are eligible for the extension through June 2026. However, registration is required.

If you own or manage a Shared Drive on behalf of your faculty mentor or the PI of a research project, and have not yet registered, please complete the Shared Drive Registration form.

Regularly visit this page for the most up-to-date information about this extension for both Personal Drives and Shared Drives.

Over-Quota Google Workspace Users

If you are currently over your Personal and/or Shared Drive data storage limit, please be advised that you may be impacted by future storage reduction campaigns. These efforts – led by the Digital & Technology Solutions team, in conjunction with OARC and campus leadership – are a necessary initiative in order to accommodate the data storage needs or the entire Bruin community.

As of June 2025, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activities has sponsored a temporary extension for eligible Personal Drives and Registered Research Shared Drives through June 2026. Eligible Personal Drives include those belonging to faculty, emeriti, academic deans, recall, academic appointee nonfaculty, postdocs, and medical residents.

Thus, while there is no immediate risk to over-quota data, DTS will be sharing more information regarding the revised compliance deadline and instructions on how to meet these requirements. Please check back for updates and further guidance on how you may be affected.
